A new outdoor exhibit exploring the experiences of Little Compton residents during the Revolutionary War opens to the public on Saturday, July 4th. Created by the Little Compton Historical Society, “Revolutionary Little Compton” is free and open to the public thanks to the generosity of RI250, BayCoast Bank, Ocean State Charities Trust, and over 100 Historical Society supporters.
"Revolutionary Little Compton” is a town wide exhibit that invites people of all ages to explore a variety of important, local, Revolutionary-era sites. More than 50 banners will be displayed on the grounds of the Historical Society at 548 West Main Road. Others can be found at the Little Compton Town Hall, the Adamsville Ball Field, South Shore Beach, the Quaker Meeting House, Greenwood Chicken, and Peckham’s Greenhouse. (More sites might be added.) An exhibit guide is available on the Historical Society’s website and as part of its digital guide on the Bloomberg Connects smartphone app.
On the Fourth of July the Historical Society will host its annual Family Day, a free event for all ages where guests can be among the first to see the exhibit while they enjoy free hot dogs, children’s games, crafts for all ages, and the Historical Society's famous contests for seed spitting, pie eating, and skillet throwing.
